Retford (Gamston) Airport
Successful completion of phase 1 at Retford (Gamston) Airport marks the first step towards creating the new dual-use facility which ensures safe ongoing aviation operations on an updated runway and high specification test track. The client is keen to develop a ‘centre of excellence around vehicle technology’ in the heart of the midlands which, in turn will generate future investment and boost the economy.
The scheme involved changing the position of the licensed runway within the footprint of existing runway position to incorporate the new test track. Additionally, the associated taxiways and perimeter track were upgraded as part of the test track facility.
John Allen, Construction Director said “We’re really pleased to have successfully collaborated with consulting engineers; Burroughs, and our new client; Thatcham Research on this duel aeronautical and car-testing facility. We’ve achieved an exceptional standard and this scheme provides scope for continual development of the site. We look forward to working with Thatcham Research at Retford (Gamston) Airport on the next phase of this project in the near future.
