Working within the Peak District National Park and adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Thomas Bow City Asphalt undertook the resurfacing of 4.4km of the A54 Buxton, known locally as the Cat & Fiddle as part of our Surface Work for Highways Framework for Derbyshire County Council. Problems encountered and resolved included:
Upon commencement, extreme weather conditions and fog reduced visibility to less than 2 metres
The steep embankments and extended gradient of the carriageway affected the traction of Pavers, resulting in the adoption of Surfacing being undertaken downhill
The absence of street lighting and inability to work on verges due to the location’s SSSI status, led to Pavers and all Plant being retrofitted with additional flood lighting to facilitate night working.
