Alistair started in Nottinghamshire as an apprentice bricklayer on housing projects for Standen Construction in the 1980s, and on completion moved to Thomas Bow to work on housing and construction sites as Site Foreman, swiftly gaining promotion to Project Manager.

He joined Ropave Construction in 1991 and on becoming General Manager was instrumental in expanding the business to include contracts up to £2m in value.

In 1996 he moved to Bardon Aggregates as New Business Development Manager, becoming Regional Construction Manager, and subsequently General Manager of Bardon Construction. Alistair developed the business and was responsible for airfield, highway, and public realm contracts. After Bardon Plc merged with Camas in 1997, his role encompassed management of all the company’s Civil Engineering in the UK. Additionally, he became General Manager of the Midlands Urban Asphalt Plants in 2000, with responsibility for commercial and operational activities.

In July 2002, he redeveloped Thomas Bow Ltd as Managing Director and extended the business, acquiring a major shareholding of City Asphalt Ltd in 2005. Forming the Thomas Bow City Asphalt Group, incorporating Ashbow Estates Ltd and ID Construction Ltd, to operate not only in the Midlands, but in Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Bedfordshire and East Anglia.

In his free time, Alistair is Chairman of Nottingham Rugby, having been on the board since 2008. He played a pivotal role in moving the club from Meadow Lane to its home in Lady Bay, and setting up a sustainable operating model.

Zuned is a qualified finance professional with 10 years of experience working in the public sector and commercial environments.

Zuned is experienced in providing quality support on key strategic projects, business planning, due diligence on commercial opportunities and capital investments, and overseeing financial governance requirements for subsidiary organisations. He’s responsible for all financial aspects of company strategy including optimising financial performance and strategic position. All the while ensuring systems are robust, compliant and support current activities as well as future growth.

John started his career in the 1980s, working for Hughes Construction. With qualifications and experience in the building industry, he was employed as a working foreman in the housing, commercial and refurbishment sector for clients in the East Midlands and London areas.

In 1990, he became self-employed and successfully carried out a wide variety of small building and civil engineering projects for large contractors.

Three years later, John joined Ropave Construction as Site Agent, further developing his skills and experience in contract management. This work encompassed a bias towards civil engineering contracts for local authorities, the Highways Agency, and private industrial clients.

In 1997, John moved to Bardon Plc, to work as a Site Agent/Engineer and helped to develop a new Civil Engineering and Construction Division. He managed minor road widening and public realm schemes for local authorities, the Highways Agency and the private sector, gaining experience of working on trunk roads and motorways, gaining promotion to Construction Works Manager in 2000.

In 2002, John joined Thomas Bow City Asphalt developing to his current position as Construction Director. During this time John managed large schemes for clients, including major airports such as Birmingham and East Midlands; large public realm schemes and highway infrastructure schemes across the Midlands.

Like other directors within the company, John is a keen sportsman and actively supports Grantham Swimming Club. He served as a president of the club for three years and continues to provide weekly level 2 coaching sessions to young people within the club.

Alex started his career in Nottingham in the late 1980s, studying graphic design, which led to his completion of a higher diploma at Cleveland College in Teeside. Upon completion of his studies, Alex moved back to Nottingham and in 1993 he joined the family business City Asphalt Limited as a Trainee Paver Operator.

Alex spent the next few years learning all aspects of the business, from operations to financial accounting, and in 1997 Alex set up City Asphalt Pavers Limited. This complemented the core business by supplying paving machines with operators for hire.

In 2000, Alex was made a Director of City Asphalt Limited, where he gradually took over the control of the business. In 2001, Bob Gardner, Founder and Managing Director of City Asphalt Limited, retired allowing Alex to continue running the business for a further four years until 2005, when the company joined forces with Thomas Bow Limited.

Today, Alex is responsible for the Surfacing division of the combined Thomas Bow City Asphalt, where he manages all surfacing projects for a wide variety of clients ranging from Local Authorities, NHS Trusts, major house builders and other commercial clients.

Nottingham born, Andrew studied in Newcastle and started his career with Black and Decker on the European Procurement team, launching new products into manufacture in the Czech Republic. In 2007, he joined Bentley Motors in Cheshire holding various procurement roles in new production introduction on the second generation of Continental series where he also gained chartered membership of institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Andrew joined Thomas Bow in 2014 as Commercial Manager, with a background in procurement and project management where he has held roles in large multinational companies. Since joining, the business has grown from £9m turnover to nearly £30m. Andrew is now Commercial Director of Thomas Bow and Breedon Bow Highways Ltd, a joint venture with the Breedon Group which he founded in 2015, to seek pavement contracts with Highways England and introduce SME’s into the pavement category.

Andrew has played a pivotal role in the growth of Thomas Bow since 2014, expanding the operating area of the group, securing new contracts in Yorkshire and Leicestershire as well as renewing all previously held frameworks across the Midlands.

In his spare time, Andrew is a board member of Nottingham Rugby. Joining during the Covid-19 pandemic, he recognised the difficulties ahead for the club to become sustainable in an extremely challenging climate, offering commercial expertise and advice to help build the business to its full potential.
