Belton House – New Car Park and Visitor Centre

Thomas Bow are pleased to be concluding their works at Belton House, an impressive stately home with vast grounds just outside Grantham. With over 350,000 people visiting the attraction each year, the grounds and parking facilities were in need of general improvement and updating.

In July last year, Thomas Bow commenced a new project with existing client, National Trust. The works, valued at over £3.2 million, consisted of a substantial overhaul of the car park, visitors centre and main driveway at Belton House. The project, consisted of full excavation of the existing grass car park and one-mile-long driveway, with new asphalt roads and gravel filled parking bays, new parking kiosks to welcome visitors and a new ‘Changing Places Toilet’.

The improvements will support the trust to manage vast numbers of visitors to the site every year, managing vehicle flow is key to the trust’s visitor experience and thus managing visitor numbers.

Belton House, being a part of the National Trust, has strict rules and regulations about how facilities such as the car parks, blend into their estates. The car park design and landscaping were specifically chosen to give a ‘softer’ appearance. All asphalt roads are to be surfaced dressed to give a more natural feel and compliment the surroundings.
